Alvin Yellowjackets Sting Pasadena Eagles 13-3

The Alvin Yellowjackets got the win over the Pasadena Eagles in six innings last night in Pasadena. Gavin Alvarez was a single short of hitting for the cycle, but ironically, it was his three-RBI triple that resulted in a 13-3 run-rule of the Eagles to end the game before he had the Alvin vs. Pasadenaopportunity for another at bat.

Corben Henry got the win with five innings of work, allowing only three hits and three walks. Cody Howell pitched to four batters in final-inning relief, striking out two and allowing no hits or runs. Every Yellowjacket batter reached in the contest, and none recorded strikeouts.

Notable offense includes Alvarez: 3-4, HR, triple, double, 7 RBI, 2 runs; Gunner Olszewski: 2-4 (including a bunt single), RBI, 2 runs; Henry: 2-3, sac bunt, 2 runs; Sean Farrell: 2-4, RBI, 2 runs; Beau Olsovsky: double; Logan Haley: double, 2 RBI, run.

Notable defense includes three putouts by Gavin Alvarez (RF); a 6-4-3 double play turned by Rico Luna (SS), Nathan Collins (2B), and Logan Haley (1B); and an outfield assist from centerfield to home from Sean Farrell (CF) to Beau Olsovsky (C).

The Yellowjackets meet the South Houston Trojans Tuesday, March 31 at 7:00 p.m. at Nolan Ryan Field.

Nathan Eovaldi Wins his Major League Debut: Starts Again Friday

Nathan Eovaldi Debuts for the Dodgers

Nathan Eovaldi Debuts

Nathan Eovaldi wins his MLB debut Saturday, August 6 in a 5-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 6’3, 195 lbs pitcher, drafted as a senior from Alvin High School, was called up by the Dodgers from AA Chattanooga Friday, August 5 to start Saturday’s game against the Diamondbacks.

He wasted no time in the first inning, retiring the side in order with two strike outs and a ground out. It was a night of firsts with Eovaldi getting his first MLB hit in his first MLB plate appearance with a single to right field off of Arizona pitcher Joe Saunders, a hit which resulted in his first run.

Throwing fastballs in the mid to high 90s and mixing in sliders to keep the hitters off balance, Eovaldi recorded seven strike outs in five innings of work, the fourth-most in Dodgers history for a pitcher making his debut.

Eovaldi is scheduled to start Friday in his home debut in Los Angeles against the Houston Astros at 9:10 pm.

Watch the free game on MLB.tv on your PC, DirecTV on channel 678 (with the Sports Package), or gather with friends at Alvin Golf & Country Club to watch it on their big screen. Beer, soft drinks, and snacks will be available. Doors open at 8:30 pm.
