All-District Teams Announced

Congratulations to the Alvin High School Baseball players honored by the 22-6A district coaches. Five Alvin players are named to first or second district teams, including Joe Damolin as District MVP. Three players received honorable mention accolades, and Coach McFarland was named as District Coach of the Year. Great job, Alvin!

Alvin Wins Close One to Grab Second Place in Standings

Alvin wins a close one at home, beating the Dobie Longhorns 3-2 in a battle of the 4-1 teams for second place in the district.

Corben Henry went 3-3 at the plate, and Joe Dalmolin got the win with ten strikeouts, two earned runs, five hits, and one walk over seven innings.

In the top of the second, the Dobie Longhorns took an early lead of 2-0.

The Yellowjackets cut the lead to one run in the second inning. Caleb Jeter started the inning with a single through the left side of the infield. Gunner Olszewski advanced Jeter to second with a sacrifice  bunt. Jeter stole third and after a walk by Zach Wright. Rico Luna scored Jeter with a bunt single.

The Yellowjackets tied the game 2-2 in a wild third inning. Henry started the inning with a single. Henry then stole second when Dobie’s catcher hit Sean Farrell in the head with a pickoff attempt of Henry. Farrell then advanced Henry to third with a sacrifice bunt and safely reached first on an errant throw. Gavin Alvarez scored Henry on a fielder’s choice to tie the game.

The game remained tied until the seventh inning when the Jackets loaded the bases with Luna reaching on an error to SS,  Nathan Collins knocking a single to center, and Olszewski drawing a walk. The game ended with Henry’s walk-off single that scored Luna.

The Yellowjackets play the Pasadena Eagles Friday at Pasadena at 7:00 p.m.

Alvin Gets the Win Over Sam Rayburn

District StandingsIt was the Alvin Yellowjackets over the Sam Rayburn Texans last night in a decisive 13-4 victory. Joe Damolin got the win with a complete game, allowing four hits and issuing only two walks.

Sean Farrell, Rico Luna, and Logan Haley led the offense. Farrell had three RBI hits, including a triple, and a steal of home. Luna contributed a double and three RBIs, and Haley connected with an RBI double. The team had a combined total of 12 stolen bases and advanced on 11 passed balls.

The Jackets are now 8-5 with 2-0 district record. THSB.com has Alvin ranked #2 in 6A Division 22. Alvin faces the #3 Pasadena Memorial Mavericks and #1 Pearland Oilers in the next two district match-ups.

2014-15 Conference 6A, District 22 Alignment

In 2014-15, Alvin Baseball has moved into the newly formed Conference 6A. They remain in District 22. Pearland Dawson has been added to the district.

Jackets Keep the Streak Going with Their Win Against Pearland

The Alvin High School Yellowjackets Baseball are now 3-0 in district with their 6-2 win against the Pearland Oilers on 3/19/2013.

For Varsity, Russell Ivy was the winning hurler for Alvin, with Tristan Deriso pitching  four innings with five strikeouts. Gerreck Jimenez led the team offensively, going three for four with three RBIs, including a three bagger and a two-RBI single. Joesph Riley and Tim Burr both went  two for three, including Burr’s two-RBI double. Goins tallied the loss for Pearland.

The JV team also won their match against Pearland, bringing home a 5-3 victory. Joey McDonald got the win, with Alex Lawson pitching 5.33 innings with five strikeouts and only two runs. Sean Farrell and Rico Luna scored four of the five Alvin runs, with Farrell getting a clutch hit in the 6th to bring in the tying run by Gunner Olszewsky. Farrell then scored on a passed ball to Chase Duplechin. Duplechin knocked in Luna with a grounder past short to give Alvin the fifth run, and McDonald kept Pearland hitless in the 7th, giving the Yellowjackets the win.

Both Varsity and JV are now 3-0 in district.

Alvin High School Baseball Varsity gained a decisive victory Tuesday in their district season opener with a 12-0 win over Sam Rayburn. Junior Russell Ivy pitched five scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and garnering an impressive 11 strike-outs.

Seniors Travis White and Tim Burr helped the team with a pair of authoritative three-baggers. Burr’s triple got the four-run third inning started, and he scored on Junior Stephen Mata’s sacrifice bunt. White’s triple came in the five-run fourth inning: a three-run shot with the bases loaded.

The JV and Sophomore teams also won their season openers on Monday, with JV scoring 15-6 over the Sam Rayburn JV team and Sophomore team winning 12-0.

2012 Sophomore Orange Team in Alvin Sun

The 2011-2012 Sophomore Orange team received recogonition in the Alvin Sun in the May 20-21 edition for winning the undisputed District 24-5A title. The Sophomore Yellowjackets went 12-2 in district play and 23-3 overall.

Congratulations on a job well done, boys! All the hard work paid off. Go Jackets!
